Indus-X Inaugural

The inaugural session highlighted the imperative to strengthen India-U.S. defense ties amid global uncertainty. Ambassador Atul Keshap highlighted the shared interests and learning that have brought both countries closer. SIDM President Rajinder Bhatia urged industry-level partnerships beyond governmental ties. Anurag Bajpai outlined initiatives like INDUS-X for defense manufacturing. Lindsey Ford stressed urgent capacity building and collaboration to address emerging security challenges, setting the Summit's agenda for India-U.S. defense innovation and strategic convergence.

Future of U.S.-India Défense Relations: Roadmap for Co-production and Co-development

The session emphasised the potential for diversification in India's defence sector, spanning aircraft, naval systems, vehicles and cybersecurity. Capitalising on India's cost advantage can attract investments. Speakers urged signing the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) for collaborations and efficient procurement. Prioritising defence mobility, logistics and supply chain security is crucial. Speakers recommended regular INDUS-X events for stakeholder dialogues. U.S. focus on precision munitions and addressing licencing barriers were advised for enhanced capabilities. Localisation, customs duty reforms and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) service improvements were highlighted for a robust defence supply chain.

Special Keynote Address by Ambassador Richard R. Verma, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources

Ambassador Verma highlighted the pivotal U.S.-India defense partnership, deeming it the most consequential bilateral relationship. Over 24 years, he observed a shift where private sector influence surpasses governmental efforts in defense. Stressing on combined efforts, he noted governments' vital role in fostering ecosystems for private partnerships. Emphasising three INDUS-X priorities, he called for accelerating defense innovation, connecting researchers to markets, and removing regulatory barriers. Verma underscored the need for innovation in UAVs, Space, and Underwater, urging Indus-X to seize the moment for a Free, Open, and Prosperous Indo-Pacific.
